Types of treatment
Invisalign:
“Invisalign”, “Clear Step” and “Essix” are all types of clear plastic aligners that are worn over the teeth. They are commonly used as retainers but they can also be used to move teeth if a series of aligners are worn full time.
The “Invisalign” company has run a very extensive advertising campaign to promote their system and as a result their promotional material regularly features in the media.
Any dentist can use “Invisalign” after attending a one day course run by the company. A series of aligners is produced by the “Invisalign” company and these are sent to the dentist for the patient to wear full time in the correct sequence. “Invisalign” treatment is more expensive because the company charges dentists several thousand euros to supply a single set of aligners.
Both Dr. Ryan and Dr. Butler have attended “Invisalign” courses and are fully accredited “Invisalign” users. “Invisalign” is not suitable for many types of treatment and in cases where it is suitable we often find that better results can be achieved quicker and more comfortably using clear braces.
If you would like to know whether aligners are a suitable alternative for you please ask at your consultation appointment.
