Types of treatment
Invisalign & Aligner treatments:
Invisalign”, “Clear Step”, "Simpli 5" and “Essix” are all types of clear plastic aligners that are worn over the teeth. They are commonly used as retainers but they can also be used to move teeth if a series of aligners is worn full time.
Aligners are almost invisible when worn and they offer the opportunity to move teeth without the need for conventional
braces.
The “Invisalign” company has run a very extensive advertising campaign to promote their system and as a result "Invisalign" is probably the best known of the aligners and features regularly in magazines and on television.
Aligners can be used by any dentist after attending a short training course so they have become popular with some general dentists who are not specialist orthodontists. They are not suitable for many people however and even in some cases where they can be used we have found that better results can be achieved quicker, cheaper and more comfortably using clear braces.
Aligner treatment and "Invisalign" in particular is expensive because the company that makes and supplies the aligners charges several thousand euros.
Both Dr. Ryan and Dr. Butler have attended “Invisalign” courses and are fully accredited “Invisalign” users. They are also experienced in the use of several other types of aligners and they will be happy to advise you whether this type of treatment is suitable for you.
